Heritage presents Melber Lecture by Lloyd Dahmen about the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge
Sandwich, Mass.— Heritage Museums & Gardens announces that competitive racecar driver and president of Club Motorsports, Lloyd Dahmen, will give the annual Melber Lecture, sharing his experience in the 2010 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge on Sunday, August 21 at 2:00pm. The Melber Lecture is held in honor of Heritage’s much-admired auto curator, G. Robert Melber. This event is included free with admission to the museum, but reservations are required. The Peking to Paris Motor Challenge began in 1907 at a time when there were no roads for the first 5,000 miles, no maps, no petrol stations, and mechanics along the way. For over 100 years, intrepid pioneers have set out on this motoring adventure driving vintage and classic cars and even motorcycles halfway around the world through some of the remotest places on earth. Last year, Lloyd Dahmen and his navigator, Chuck Schwager, departed Beijing (formerly Peking) on September 10 in his 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe and arrived in Paris on October 16.
Mr. Dahmen will tell of his adventures and misadventures in the 2010 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge. Audience members will journey with him through slides and a video across the deserts of Mongolia; follow the Silk Road through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan; experience Iran; glide through Turkey and Greece; and dash through Italy and France to arrive gloriously at Place Vendôme in Paris. His road-weary Cadillac will be available at Heritage for all to inspect, sit in, and kick its tires.

Heritage Museum & Gardens is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Museum admission is $15.00 (adults), $12.00 (seniors), $7.00 (youth, ages 4 to 16), and free for members and children age 3 and under.
