There are many opportunities to get involved, so find the one that’s right for you:
Program Volunteer: Work with the public and our front line staff to provide a memorable, meaningful experience for our visitors during special events and public programs! Program Volunteers help with:
- Greeting visitors as they arrive, helping with wayfinding, and recommending things to see and do around the gardens and galleries.
- Event assistance, helping with programmatic handouts, helping with craft and program activities, and assisting with crowd control.
- Materials prep, get activities and games organized for large event days, helping sort and organize materials for Hidden Hollow, and doing behind-the-scenes administrative tasks like sorting inventory.
Education Volunteers: Help interpret our collections both inside the galleries and outside in the gardens for school groups, adult groups, and visitors of all ages. Education Volunteers help with:
- Engaging students grades K-8 grade through hands-on interactive workshops that connect Museum collections and STEM learning in fun and exciting ways.
- Interpreting Heritage’s collections to community and groups by teaching with objects, giving informal talks, and leading interactive tours through our galleries and gardens.
- Assisting with greeting and welcoming adult and student group tour customers upon arrival.
Horticulture Department: This opportunity will allow you to work in the gardens doing various duties, including weeding, mulching, fertilizing, pruning, propagation, and plant documentation. As a Horticulture Volunteer you will help Heritage maintain our beautiful public gardens enjoyed by all who visit.
Development Volunteers: This opportunity will allow you to experience the inner workings of a nonprofit organization in this extremely important job that can assist in fundraising at Heritage.
- Event Volunteers: Heritage hosts several fundraising events and programs throughout the year from small talks to our Annual Gala. Duties of an event volunteer include, event design and setup and takedown, handing out nametags, wayfinding, welcoming guests, assisting at check-in, and acting as hosts.
- Database Volunteers: In order to communicate effectively with our members, donors and visitors, a clean database is important. Duties of a database volunteer include record clean up, database maintenance, running reports, filing, stuffing envelopes, membership outreach, and more.
Maintenance: This opportunity will allow you to assist in the maintenance of Heritage’s buildings and gardens, helping ensure that the 100 acres of Heritage Museums, which is home to 65 acres of gardens, 18,000 objects in our collections including 43 American automobiles, are kept in a clean, safe and secure facility.
Thank you for your interest and we look forward to connecting with you as a potential new volunteer!
