Music and Nature Program

Join composer and songwriter David Cohen for an exploration of how composers and musicians have been inspired by the natural world, from the oceans to the mountains to the forests and beyond! Learn about the incredible influence nature has had on music from different ages, cultures, and genres. Plenty of time will be included for questions and discussion.

Speaker Bio: David Cohen

Background & Commissions – David Cohen is a composer and songwriter who has written chamber and orchestral music, and scores for documentaries and films.

Notable Achievements –

  • Commissioned to compose original works to celebrate the Cape Cod Symphony’s (CSO) 50th anniversary
  • Commissioned for  the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service
  • Created orchestral arrangements for the CSOs Holiday Concerts and Barnstable’s 375th anniversary concert.
  • Compositions performed across Cape Cod venues, including the Cotuit Center for the Arts and the Cape Cod Cultural Center.

Teaching & Focus – For the past few seasons, David has taught music classes covering all genres of music from pop, jazz, Broadway, classical, and world music to music lovers on Cape Cod and in Naples, FL. His focus is helping students learn “active listening” techniques to help them gain deeper levels of enjoyment from music and explore new and exciting musical adventures.

He has been commissioned to compose original works to celebrate the Cape Cod Symphony’s (CSO) 50th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, and created orchestral arrangements for the CSOs Holiday Concerts and Barnstable’s 375th anniversary concert.
