To many, cranberries are inextricably linked to the heritage and culture of our region. This exhibit will highlight these topics, as well as their role in the economics and environment of our area. This exhibit will be the debut of Heritage’s newly acquired cranberry collection, the largest museum cranberry collection in the country.

Celebrate the 80-year anniversary of the end of World War II by viewing Heritage’s newest automobile acquisition: the 1942 Willys MB Jeep. This brand-new exhibit explores the history of this iconic wartime vehicle, showcasing what US General George Marshall called “America’s greatest contribution to modern warfare.”

What was life like for the indigenous tribes who lived here pre-colonization? This exhibit features a full-scale reproduction of a wetu, a traditional Wampanoag dwelling, a Wampanoag-style vegetable garden, and a Wampanoag mush8n.

Inspired by the sea, this season’s Heritage Highlights will feature all manner of marine art, including pieces by Frank Vining Smith and Ralph and Martha Cahoon, and marine history found in the Heritage Museums & Gardens Permanent Collection.

Our Gardens

Over 100 years ago, Charles Dexter purchased this property, where he began his rhododendron hybridizing work. Because of his passion and dedication, present-day visitors can expect a beautiful display of blooms throughout May into mid-June.

The 2020 expansion of North American Hydrangea Test Garden showcases some of the newest hydrangea cultivars on the market. Many of these cultivars are new to Heritage and will be maturing this season and begin to flower. Additionally, the McInnes Garden will continue the popular pollinator theme, while the Garden of the Senses will feature a newly planted succulent area as well as more herbaceous perennials throughout.
