Earth Day Celebration

We look forward to welcoming you to Heritage Museums & Gardens for the 2024 season! Thank you for supporting the museum with your purchase of admission tickets.

Join us for an early Earth Day celebration, complete with some environmentally-friendly fun! Challenge yourself to a scavenger hunt throughout the gardens and galleries, make a craft to take home, explore the history of early electric cars and a windmill from 1800, learn about Heritage’s progress toward sustainability goals, create landscape-inspired artwork, and more! All activities are free with museum admission or membership. No advance registration required.

Schedule of activities:

10 am-3 pm

  • Challenge yourself to a scavenger hunt throughout the gardens and galleries
  • Learn about historic wind power from an Interpreter by getting a closer look at the Old East Mill, Heritage’s windmill built in 1800
  • Make a windmill craft to take home
  • Play outdoor games on the Parade Field, including participating in a recycling relay
  • Create your own artwork inspired by Heritage’s landscapes and the Impressionist New England exhibit

10 am-12 pm

  • Meet the curator of the Charging Ahead exhibit to learn more about early electric cars

11-11:45 am

  • Hear a presentation from an environmental sustainability expert to learn more about Heritage’s progress toward sustainability goals and take home tips for what you can do at home

General Admission Tickets are date specific and are valid for entry any time between 10 am-4:30 pm and can be purchased online or upon arrival. Heritage is open rain or shine, so don’t forget to dress for the elements!

Tickets include admission to:

  • The gardens, featuring collections of rhododendrons, hydrangeas, daylilies, and more (seasonal)
  • The Hidden Hollow outdoor discovery area
  • The Special Exhibitions Gallery, featuring the Impressionist New England: Four Seasons of Color and Light exhibit
  • The J.K. Lilly III Automobile Gallery, featuring the From Carriage to Classic: How Automobiles Transformed America and Charging Ahead: Early Electric Cars in America exhibits
  • The American Art & Carousel Gallery, featuring the Heritage Highlights exhibit and rides on the 1908 Looff carousel
  • The outdoor art exhibit Alfred Glover in the Garden (opening mid-May)
  • Wampanoag wetu, Three Sisters Garden, and mush8n
  • Outdoor features such as the McGraw Family Garden of the Senses, the Flume Fountain, the Hart Family Maze Garden, the labyrinth, walking trails, and more
  • Lilly’s Café
  • The Shop at Heritage in its new temporary location

The Adventure Park at Heritage is NOT included with the purchase of a Heritage Museums & Gardens admission; however, those with a receipt dated within seven days of their Heritage Museums & Gardens visit can receive 10% off tickets.

We are excited to be building a new Welcome Center! While you will notice construction upon parking and entering, please note that all of our museums and garden spaces are open and unaffected.

  • Judith Holt
    Judith Holt

    Judith Holt, principal of Judith Holt Design, has over 25 years of experience in energy efficiency, solar and green design. She is a certified energy auditor and member of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and the Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative who has worked on Capitol Hill on energy education related projects. She wrote national standards for the Department of Energy and was appointed a Smithsonian Associate for her work in solar energy. She has authored several articles on green building issues and was the recipient of the New England Press Association award for Environmental Writing. She shares her wealth of expertise widely for community benefit, including her work with the Town of Andover to write their “green” standards, with the Massachusetts Audubon Society that has included evaluating energy use at 58 wildlife sanctuaries, and her current service as a member of Heritage’s Board of Trustees.
