Gearhead Garage
This unique event provides the opportunity for auto enthusiasts to get up close and personal with our exceptional antique and classic car collection. During this exclusive, after-hours program you are invited to go behind the scenes into Heritage’s auto storage area and maintenance garage and to get face-to-fender with these fascinating vehicles. Enjoy private access to the automobile exhibits From Carriage to Classic: How Automobiles Transformed America and Charging Ahead: Early Electric Cars in America. Get a look under the hood at the engines of select vehicles, and have the rare opportunity to watch and listen as featured cars from Heritage’s collection are started up and driven (weather permitting). Don’t miss this opportunity to meet like-minded aficionados and to get all your classic car questions answered by expert members of Heritage’s Auto Committee, who also share what it takes to maintain this world-class collection during this drop-in, explore-at-your-own-pace experience.

This month’s program will feature an in-depth look at two supremely stylish vehicles: the 1925 Franklin Sport Runabout, the first car to have a production boattail body, an air-cooled engine, and a wooden shock-dampening frame; and the 1962 Chevrolet Corvette, designed by noted stylist Harley Earl. Our Corvette is a National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) Top Flight award winner.
This program takes place rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather it will take place fully indoors in the J.K. Lilly III Automobile Gallery. A limited number of tickets are available, so advance registration is highly recommended.
