Proceeds Provide Support for Care of Heritage’s Automobile Collection

August 1, 2017

“Cocktails for Cars,” a Concours-like event that brings together car owners and their high-end classics and exotics with auto enthusiasts for one special fundraising evening, takes place at Heritage Museums & Gardens on Saturday, September 16, from 4-6:30 pm. Heritage is recruiting car owners and welcomes registration for those who wish to display their exceptional vehicle(s). Registration is $250 per car, which includes admission for two to the event; $220 of this fee is tax-deductible.

Proceeds from the event provide direct support for the maintenance and care of Heritage’s automobile collection, including expansion of the collection, servicing and cleaning of vehicles, and entry of vehicles in prominent auto shows.

Nearly $8,000 was raised at the 2016 Cocktails for Cars, which provided for preparation of the 1909 White Steamer’s trip to Washington, D.C., for display on the National Mall, in recognition for being recognized by the National Historic Vehicle Association’s National Register of Historic Automobiles. In addition, service work was done on a number of vehicles in the collection, and Heritage’s 1932 Packard was entered into the 2016 Boston Cup Car show, winning Second Place American, and the 1915 Stutz Bearcat was entered into the Misselwood Concours d’Elegance, where it received the People’s Choice Award.

This year’s cars to date include a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette, a 1972 Citroen SM, a 1949 Chevrolet “Beach Wagon” Woody, a 2016 Porsche GT3-RS, and—most notable—a 1950 Allard J2 Competition. This car, one of only 89 of this model built, raced at Pebble Beach in 1951 and throughout the Southwest for several years thereafter. It won awards at the Amelia Island Concours [Amelia Awards, Sports Cars (Pre-1954)] and was voted by Road and Track magazine as “The car we most like to drive.” The AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) has awarded it a Grand National First Award. Owned by Andrew Picariello of Marstons Mills since 1963, it also won Best of Show in 2004 at Heritage’s Annual Auto Show.

Cocktails for Cars features the opportunity to mix and mingle with owners and their high-end vehicles and to get up close and personal with Heritage’s remarkable 40 car antique auto collection. Tickets to the event for people not showing their car are $50 per person, or $75 per couple.

The event will be held rain or shine. All tickets include free general admission to Heritage on September 16. Light hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served.

Heritage is grateful to Bonhams and to Beacon Financial Planning of Cape Cod, Inc., sponsors of Cocktails for Cars.
