DUXBURY — Summer had barely begun when Chris Kennedy, landscape designer and president of Kennedy’s Country Gardensin Scituate, noticed something missing this year — all the people asking “Why doesn’t my hydrangea bloom?”

“In 25 years, I’ve had the least amount of questions this year,” Kennedy, the third-generation head of the family business, said. “Everyone’s looks great. The reason hydrangeas are so popular is that they bloom the longest of any shrub and if they don’t, people are disappointed. Hydrangeas are our most popular selling reliable shrub.”
