Heritage Summer Program 2024 @ The Hundred Acre School

Heritage Museums & Gardens opens its doors during the summer to offer weekly programs at The Hundred Acre School.

These programs are open to the school’s current students and the general public. We allow families to sign up for individual full or partial weeks.

Join us in our bright, modern, air-conditioned classrooms for STEM-focused weekly programs that allow children to question like scientists, use technology as a tool, be creative engineers, and think like mathematicians. Heritage Museums & Gardens becomes our second classroom with daily adventures throughout the grounds and to the museums. Our daily schedule is planned to be 50% indoors and 50% outside.

The Wednesday or Thursday before your program, you will get a reminder message in your Brightwheel account.

Summer Enrollment – SOLD OUT FOR 2024!

2024 Registration will open in two phases:

  • Current Student Priority Registration is March 3-8: Link sent in Brightwheel messages
    • Students currently attending PreK, K, grade 1 or grade 2 in the 2023-2024 school year
    • Next year’s accepted PreK, K, grade 1 & 2 students with paid tuition deposit.
    • Current and Next Year siblings
    • Our current and future students receive a 10% discount on 100Acre programs but not LEGO.
  • General Public Registration: Opens on TUESDAY, March 12 @ 10am

Summer enrollment will end on June 26th or when the summer program fills to capacity

Waitlist students will be accepted or refunded by June 3. No waitlist students will be accepted after Memorial Day Weekend.

Step 1: Submit an Registration Request and create a Brightwheel account.

Make sure to turn on all notifications in your account as we will only communicate with you about your enrollment through Brightwheel.

Step 2: Pay your summer invoice in full

The 100Acre Admin team will reply via Brightwheel with your summer invoice to be paid electronically. Your child is not registered until this this step is completed so your spot is not held. We do not offer a payment plan; invoices must be paid in full.

We will not reach out via email or phone if this step is not completed. It is your responsibility to check your Brightwheel account. All open invoices will be cancelled after 5 days and your enrollment request will be declined.

Step 3: Accepted, Waitlisted or Declined

The 100Acre Admin team will reply within 1 week after payment is submitted. Please note that applications will be reviewed in the order that step 2 is completed. If we have openings, an accepted letter will be sent via Brightwheel.

If we have a waitlist, you will be notified of your status and contacted when space is available. If you do not want to stay on the waitlist, your payment will be refunded ASAP per your request. All waitlisted students will be refunded on June 3, 2024 if the program is still full.

This one week program is only offered during Week 4 and Week 5 of the summer program. The first week is engineered younger and the second week is engineered older.

Science Sleuths

Back by popular demand, our week of cool science experiments is not one to miss. We will hypothesize, gather data, and share the results with family and friends. Doing an experiment is a lot of fun, but figuring out why and what we learned is just as important. Join us in discovering these mysteries.

Awesome Blossom

Heritage Museums & Gardens celebrated one of Cape Cod’s most popular flowers during the Hydrangea Festival. July is filled with blossoms of all types. We will investigate these awesome blossoms and many others while we become botanists, horticulturists, and gardening gurus. If you want to spend some time exploring gardening, we will be digging in the dirt all week!

Week 3: July 15-19

Drip, Float, Splash with Water

Come explore the different areas throughout Heritage Museums & Gardens where water is found – like the Flume Fountain, Hidden Hollow’s Splash area, or even along our Lake Walk. This is the only week we might hope for some water to fall from the sky, too! We won’t be swimming but we probably will get wet in our many activities and experiences both indoors and out.

Animal Engineers

What do birds, bees, beavers, praying mantis, bears, ants, moles, mice, humpback whales, other insects, and kids all have in common? They love to build! Become an engineer as we investigate some of the best animal engineers and complete some hands-on challenges.

Lego Program #1

For entering Kindergarten to Age 8 only

C3Brix Lego Program: Get ready for a full week of Lego fun! Join Cody Wells of C3Brix (aka the Lego Man of NYC) for Lego builds, challenges, and Lego knowledge beyond your wildest dreams. He can’t wait to inspire, get excited, and celebrate the engineering abilities of the next generation of Lego builders. Throughout the week, students will work together to create amazing builds. Lego challenges and prizes will be done daily, along with a few surprises built in. “Pun intended”

Nature Explorers

The magic of nature is found throughout Heritage Museums & Gardens and we are going to explore it all! We will have our binoculars, observation journals, field guides and STEM tools ready to get into the action. This is one of our signature weeks and allows students to “stop and smell the roses” so to speak. We find that slowing down and really observing nature can lead to some amazing discoveries.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Hundred Acre School is a PreK-Grade 2 school for the school year. All of our teachers work in the summer and we typically hire 2 -3 additional teaching staff during the summer. Our teachers are adults that have at least a BA in education or a related field. Our summer staff are undergraduate education majors, retired teachers, current public school educators or adults who love kids! All have a background record check with the Department of Early Education and Care. Most are CPR/First Aid Certified.

We do not offer prospective student tours for the summer program.

  • For the Summer Program, we accept student entering grade 2 in the fall 2023 so we do not accept students who just finished grade 2.
  • For Lego Summer program, we accept students up to age 10 regardless of grade.

No, we are only taking children that are age 4 at the time of the program.

No, it is only for children kindergarten and above.

Age guidance is firm. We will not make exceptions for our two age groups for Lego during the month of March or April.

If by chance we have any openings once we get to May, requests will be considered by the school director.

Yes, children should be confidently potty trained (diapers are not allowed) but with that being said, we understand that accidents happen so all children are asked to bring extra clothes.

No, this program is not part of member benefits at this time. Check out the Heritage membership page for the many other member benefits including unlimited admissions to the museums & gardens.

We follow these procedures for all students to keep them healthy:

  1. Snack and lunch are provided by the family
  2. Students do not share or trade food.
  3. Students with food allergies sit at a table with children that do not have those food items in their snack or lunch
  4. Tables are cleaned with multi-surface cleaner.
  5. Placemats are washed after each use
  6. Most staff at the program are CPR and First Aid certified
  7. The Heritage Security Team is also trained to respond to emergencies and will be able to assist staff with emergencies as needed.

We do not limit what children choose to bring for snack or lunch. We do not limit environmental allergens from our classrooms/interactions on the grounds. Children could be exposed to a variety of allergens either in the classroom, on the grounds or in the museums. If your child has a severe allergy (breathing or touching an item), we probably are not a good fit. If your child has an ingestion allergy to a certain medication or food, we probably are a good fit. You are welcome to contact the us to discuss the specifics of your child.

  • We require a medical release with detailed information about an allergy and what steps would need to be followed if something did happen. A form will be sent to you to fill out and bring with your medication.
  • You would provide us with any medications needed to keep him/her safe (i.e. epi-pen).
  • These medications will be kept in the classroom backpack that is taken with the class anytime they leave the school.

No refund is provided if cancellation occurs less than 4-weeks before the Monday of the program date/start date. The dates listed here indicate the 4-week date when refunds are no longer given in 2024.

Cancellations from May through 4-weeks before date will receive a 50% refund.

Cancellation in March or April will receive a full refund minus the $50 non-refundable processing fee.

  • The only exception to this policy is a student-positive COVID case. If your child is positive, we will refund 50% of your program fees if you alert the school ON or BEFORE the date of their anticipated attendance. You must submit proof. Email a photo of the COVID test result with your child’s name and test date written on the test in marker to 100acreschool@heriatgemuseums.org

No. Payment is due in full at the time of your registration. You are not accepted until payment is received. A $50 non-refundable processing fee is included with every registration.

No we do not at this time.

The school has its own entrance and parking lot so it is very convenient for drop off and pick up. Use Google Maps as we have a pin on the school and its the easiest way to find us.

Our program uses the gardens and galleries of Heritage Museums & Gardens daily so we already feel like we go on a field trip everyday. We don’t go on additional field trips off the grounds of Heritage Museums & Gardens.
