TITLE:                             PreK or Elementary Substitute Teacher
DEPT:                              The Hundred Acre School
REPORTS TO:                Director of The Hundred Acre School
FLSA STATUS:               Part-time, non-exempt, hours vary
 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The perfect candidate must be a passionate educator.  Perhaps you are recently retired from teaching and want to come have fun with students for a day or you are new to teaching and want to be a part of a great school.  You must be an intentional, creative, thoughtful educator who loves children, hands-on learning, STEM, and teaching and learning in the outdoors.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

School & EEC:

  • Adhere to all EEC regulations
  • Uphold the mission and goals of The Hundred Acre School at Heritage Museums & Gardens
  • Treating students, families, staff, and visitors at the school with respect

Teaching Requirements:

  • Follow the lesson plans or guidance from co-teacher to ensure that the classroom runs smoothly while the teacher is absent.
  • If in PreK, assist the lead teacher in classroom management and daily routines
  • Work cooperatively with co-teaching staff
  • Prepare and maintain an engaging, nurturing, clean, and safe learning environment
  • Willingness to work outdoors in uncomfortable weather or conditions (i.e. winter, rain, summer)
  • Stand on your feet for up to 90% of the day
  • Ability to sit on the floor and squat down to meet any child’s needs
  • Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds unassisted

Teaching Style:

  • Love kids and their energy, excitement, curiosity and innocence
  • Maintain control of the classroom through praise and patient practice
  • Meeting the needs of all children
  • Encourage students to use problem-solving skills and practice positive behavior guidance

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Required acceptable CORI, DCF, and fingerprinting background checks
  • MA Early Education & Care (EEC) certification or Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) Certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred
  • Previous experience required

We welcome students currently in high school, undergraduate, graduate or doctorate programs who need in classroom experiences as part of their coursework.  This could be called an internship, observation hours, student teaching, practicum or community service.  We are proud to open our doors to teachers of the future.
